A hosted kiteboarding week built around a simple idea: when the setup is handled, you actually ride.
Soundfront house with walk-out launch. Dedicated rigging area. On-site host. A small, focused group of people who take it seriously.
rig → ride → rest → ride
The Problem
Why Most
Kite Trips Fall Short
Most kite trips aren’t limited by wind — they’re limited by setup.
Restricted launches. Crowded spots. Packing gear every single day.
And if you’ve ever booked a group house — you know the rest. Overbooked rooms. Six people to a bathroom. A host who’s unreachable until you’re standing outside knocking. Group dynamics you didn’t sign up for.
For newer riders it’s even harder — no clear progression,
nobody to ask, and too much time figuring things out
instead of riding.
We built this because we’ve lived all of it.
One house. Two clear pathways.
Everyone shares the same soundfront setup, Cape Hatteras conditions, and unhurried daily rhythm. What changes is how you move through the week.
This is not a vacation rental — it’s a curated experience with structure, access, and a host who’s invested in the outcome.

The Guide
Meet Your Host — Craig Aasen
Craig built Adventure Travel Company around a simple idea:
Most kite trips aren’t limited by wind — they’re limited by setup.
The Soundfront Experience is designed to remove that friction — from where you stay to how the week flows.
You know where to go, what to expect, and how each day comes together.
Stay on the water. Launch from the property. Ride at your own pace, with guidance available when you want it.
The result is a week that feels simple, structured, and focused on what matters — time on the water and steady progression.
“Cape Hatteras is special. It’s where wind meets stillness and everyone becomes a better rider.” Craig Aasen

How the week works
Arrive. Settle in. Start riding.
The week is designed to have a rhythm. You don’t need to figure anything out on arrival — the setup is ready, the conditions are watched, and the pace is yours to set.
Choose & Book
Select Independent Rider or Immersion, choose your room, and lock in your dates through UltiStay. No account required to browse. Once you’re booked, you’ll get everything you need to know before you arrive — no guesswork, no back-and-forth.
Arrive Once. Unpack Once.
Rigging area, compressors, sandbags — all ready when you pull in. Walk to the water in under a minute. Your host is on-site, conditions are being watched, and the house runs on a rhythm built entirely around wind windows.
The Week Itself
Wake up. Check conditions. Walk to the water. When the wind fills, you’re already there. When it doesn’t, you’re not chasing it. By day two, the week has a rhythm — and most guests leave wondering why they don’t do this every year.

Why it works
Designed to deliver. Not left to chance.
Most kite trips are good in theory and frustrating in practice. This one is built differently — from the location and the house to the week structure and the group size.
- The location is not a coincidence — Cape Hatteras delivers reliable wind in April and October, flat shallow water, and miles of open sound. No restricted access, no gate fees, no keys to rent. You walk out and ride.
- Soundfront access isn’t a feature — it’s the entire point. When your base is 60 seconds from launch, your session count doubles. Rig when it fills, rest when it doesn’t, go again.
- 10–14 guests, capped deliberately. Small enough that nobody waits on a crowd, nobody gets lost. Two paths run cleanly — Independent Riders and Immersion guests never step on each other’s week.
“We could launch right from the beach and watch everyone from the balcony. Staying with Craig and Adventure Travel Co made planning the trip really easy.”
Kelly T. — Independent Rider

What Riders Say
Frequently Asked Questions
Which path is right for me — Independent Rider or Immersion?
The easiest way to find out is to ask yourself one question:
If you showed up at the beach alone — no instructor, no friend, no one — could you safely rig your gear, launch, ride, and land without any assistance?
That answer puts you in one of three places:
Yes, fully — You’re on the Independent Rider path. No required instruction. Optional coaching available if you want to work on something specific.
You can water start and ride, but you need help with launching, landing, or rigging — You’re still on the Independent Rider path, but you’ll need to complete a skills sign-off before riding on your own during the week. Add the Free Ground School Session when booking. Your Outerbanks Kiteboarding instructor will sign you off on day one — or recommend 1–3 private lessons at an additional cost if needed.
Can you water start and ride upwind? → Independent path.
Still working on water starts or riding upwind consistently? → Immersion path
Three days of structured instruction built into your full week stay. All gear provided. Capped enrollment. A clear progression pathway.
Not sure? Send a message — a two-minute conversation will sort it out.
I'm semi-independent — I can ride upwind but want to improve. Is this a fit?
It depends on where your gap is.
If you can ride, rig your own gear, and launch and land — but want more consistency, stronger wind confidence, or cleaner technique — yes, this week is ideal. You’re on the Independent Rider path and can add optional coaching sessions through Outerbanks Kiteboarding, scheduled around wind windows during the week.
If you can water start and ride but rely on someone else to help with launching, landing, or rigging — you’re also on the Independent Rider path, but you’ll need to complete a skills sign-off before riding on your own. Add the Free Ground School Session at booking. Your instructor will either clear you on day one or recommend 1–3 private lessons at an additional cost to get you there.
Cape Hatteras is genuinely one of the best places to close that gap — flat water, steady wind, and miles of open sound give you the space to actually improve, not just get through sessions.
Not sure? Send a message — a two-minute conversation will sort it out.
Can I come solo?
Absolutely. Solo travelers are a regular part of the
group. The small group environment and shared dinners
make it easy to connect — most solo guests leave
with people they’ll ride with again.
How many guests are in the house each week?
Each week runs with a small group of riders —typically 10–14 guests across both pathways. Small enough to know everyone by day two.
What's included for Independent Riders?
Independent riders join a friction-free riding base that includes: soundfront accommodation, private walk-out launch, a dedicated rigging area with compressors and sandbags, linens and toiletries, breakfast essentials, bikes and SUPs, Access to rent e-Foils, a hosted community dinner, and onsite host support for logistics and local knowledge. Optional private or semi-private coaching can be added. There is no required instruction.
What's the best season to visit Cape Hatteras?
We run structured weeks in April (Spring) and October (Fall) — the two windows when Cape Hatteras delivers the most reliable wind and beginner-friendly flat water on the sound side. Both seasons offer small groups, consistent conditions, and the full week structure that makes real progress possible.
What's the $90 experience fee and what does it cover?
The $90 per-guest experience fee covers your full hosted week — onsite host support, community dinner, gear station access, and all house essentials including linens, toiletries, breakfast supplies, and coffee.
One flat fee. Not a daily charge.
What if conditions aren't perfect during my week?
They won’t always be — and that’s something we plan for. Cape Hatteras is one of the most consistent wind destinations on the East Coast, but conditions vary in any wind sport. We design each week so that the schedule, access, and support adapt to whatever shows up. Guests make real progress regardless of variability — that’s the point of the design.
What about logistics?
Norfolk International Airport (ORF) is the most common arrival point, about two hours from Avon.
Most guests rent a vehicle for the week, though some choose to coordinate shared rides with others arriving at similar times.
Groceries, restaurants, and essentials are a short drive from the house.
How is the week structured?
Each stay is designed as a complete, full-week experience. Arrival and departure windows are listed on each date page.
The full-week structure allows the group rhythm, wind windows, and progression pathways to unfold intentionally rather than feeling rushed or fragmented.
Guests are free to depart early if needed. However, the experience is designed to deliver the most value across the full week.
Some instructional elements and activities are wind-dependent and scheduled accordingly.
How does the Immersion Learn to Kiteboard or Wing Foil Path work?
The Immersion Path is a structured beginner progression experience embedded within the full-week stay.
This is not a one-off lesson.
It is a foundation-building entry into the sport.
Immersion participation is intentionally capped each week to maintain focused instruction and a supportive learning environment.
Included:
- Structured beginner instruction
• Dedicated boat and jet ski support
• All kiteboarding/wing foil gear provided
• On-water supervision
• Beginner-friendly flat-water conditions
• A clear progression pathway
Is this a vacation rental?
No. Guests are purchasing participation in a curated group experience, not renting a house. That distinction matters. The environment, access, and week structure are intentionally managed to produce a specific outcome — progress, focus, and a genuinely great week on the water. Full terms and policies are provided at booking.
What if my partner does not ride?
Non-riding guests are welcome.
They participate in the environment, enjoy the home, and have access to biking, paddleboarding, beach time, and the overall community atmosphere.
Does the experience include food?
Breakfast essentials are included for all guests — coffee, house staples, and morning basics to start the day without a grocery run.
One hosted community dinner is included during the week — a shared meal with the group, local kite pros, and the hosting team.
Beyond that, meals are on your own. Groceries, restaurants, and essentials are a short drive from the house.
That said, groups often self-organize dinners and cookouts during the week — it tends to happen naturally. There’s no expectation either way.
